Aliskiren-Amlodipine-Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects

Confusion, seizures, and rapid weight gain are some of the potentially serious side effects of aliskiren-amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide that should be reported immediately to a healthcare provider. However, in most cases, reactions to this medicine tend to be minor and easy to treat. Some of the more common problems this drug may cause include dizziness, headaches, and water retention.

An Introduction to Side Effects of Aliskiren-Amlodipine-Hydrochlorothiazide

Just like any medicine, aliskiren-amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide (Amturnide®) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Some side effects of aliskiren-amlodipine-hydrochlorothiazide are potentially serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider right away. These include but are not limited to:
 
  • Signs of an electrolyte imbalance, such as:
 
    • Dry mouth
    • Increased thirst
    • Weakness
    • Tiredness
    • Restlessness
    • Seizures
    • Confusion
    • Muscle pain and cramps
    • Decrease urine output
    • Weak or irregular heartbeat
    • Nausea and vomiting
 
  • Gout or worsening of preexisting gout
  • Kidney stones
  • Seizures
  • Lightheadedness or fainting, which can be a sign of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Chest pain
  • Irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • Severe swelling and water retention
  • Rapid weight gain
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue, or throat (known medically as angioedema)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:
 
    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Unexplained swelling
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing or swallowing.
