Side Effects of Aliskiren/Amlodipine

In general, most people experience a safe treatment process with aliskiren/amlodipine. Side effects are possible, however. The most commonly reported one is peripheral edema. Fortunately, if you experience any problems with this drug, they are usually mild and easily treated. If something just doesn't seem right during treatment, don't be afraid to report the reaction to your healthcare provider.

An Introduction to Aliskiren/Amlodipine Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with aliskiren/amlodipine (Tekamlo™); however, not everyone who takes the medication will experience problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider.

Serious Side Effects to Report

Some aliskiren/amlodipine side effects, while usually infrequent, are potentially serious and should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider. These include but are not limited to:
  • Swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue, or throat (known medically as angioedema)
  • Dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting, which may be signs of low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Severe swelling or water retention of the lower limbs
  • Rapid weight gain
  • Chest pain (angina)
  • A slow heart rate (bradycardia) or an irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia)
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Signs of an allergic reaction, such as:


    • An unexplained rash
    • Hives
    • Itching
    • Swelling of the mouth or throat
    • Wheezing
    • Difficulty breathing.
