An Introduction to Aliskiren/Amlodipine Uses
- Not taking any blood pressure medications but who will likely need two medications to adequately treat their hypertension.
- Taking either aliskiren or amlodipine alone and their blood pressure is not adequately controlled.
- Already taking aliskiren or amlodipine and are experiencing problematic side effects related to the dose of the medication. Using the medications together may allow for a dose reduction, perhaps reducing the problematic side effects.
- Already taking both aliskiren and amlodipine and may want to switch to aliskiren/amlodipine for cost savings or to take fewer pills per day.
High blood pressure is defined as an
average blood pressure higher than 140/90 with multiple
blood pressure readings, although many healthcare providers consider anything above 120/80 to be too high. A single blood pressure reading may point to a potential problem but is not enough to diagnose high blood pressure.
This medication is not a cure for high blood pressure, however, and the condition will almost certainly return once you stop using aliskiren/amlodipine.
