Drug Interactions With Aliskiren

More Information on Interactions With Aliskiren

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when aliskiren is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

ACE Inhibitors
Combining aliskiren with an ACE inhibitor may increase your risk of high blood potassium (hyperkalemia), which can be a serious problem. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider should monitor your potassium levels.

Amiloride Products (Midamor, Moduretic)
Taking aliskiren with amiloride may increase your risk of high blood potassium (hyperkalemia), which can be a serious problem. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider should monitor your potassium levels.

Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARBs)
Combining aliskiren with an ARB may increase your risk of high blood potassium (hyperkalemia), which can be a serious problem. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider should monitor your potassium levels.

Atorvastatin Products (Lipitor, Caduet)
Atorvastatin can increase the level of aliskiren in the blood by as much as 50 percent. This could increase your risk of side effects of aliskiren. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your aliskiren dosage if you start or stop taking this drug, although this may not be necessary in all cases.

Furosemide (Lasix)
Aliskiren can decrease your blood levels of furosemide, possibly making furosemide less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your furosemide dosage if you start or stop taking aliskiren.

Cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune)
Cyclosporine can greatly increase the level of aliskiren in your blood. These medications should not be taken together.
