Calan SR Side Effects

Of the reported Calan SR side effects, the most common one is constipation, which occurs in up to 7.3 percent of people taking the medication. Other common side effects include dizziness, nausea, and low blood pressure. Serious side effects that should be reported immediately to your healthcare provider include hallucinations, chest pain, and significant water retention. However, most people tolerate the drug well and if side effects do occur, they are usually minor and easily treated.

 

Calan SR Side Effects: An Introduction

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with Calan SR® (verapamil hydrochloride). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. When side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Calan SR Side Effects

Calan SR has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials, in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented and then compared to the side effects of another group not taking the medicine.
 As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
 
In these studies, the most common Calan SR side effects included:
 
  • Constipation -- in up to 7.3 percent of people
  • Dizziness -- up to 3.3 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 2.7 percent
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension) -- up to 2.5 percent
  • Headaches -- up to 2.2 percent.
