Dosing With Candesartan-Hydrochlorothiazide

The guidelines for dosing with candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide will vary depending on several factors, such as other medical conditions you may have, other medications you may currently be taking, and how you respond to candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide. A healthcare provider may recommend a starting dose of candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide 16 mg/12.5 mg once a day. The dosage may be increased or decreased after several weeks, once the full effects of the medication can be measured.

Candesartan-Hydrochlorothiazide Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of candesartan cilexetil-hydrochlorothiazide (Atacand HCT®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Candesartan-Hydrochlorothiazide Dosing for High Blood Pressure

The recommended starting dosage of candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide for most people with high blood pressure (hypertension) is candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide 16 mg/12.5 mg once a day. Based on the blood pressure response and/or candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. With each change in dosage, it may take several weeks to see the full effects of candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide on lowering blood pressure.

If you have moderate to severe liver disease (including cirrhosis), your healthcare provider may choose to start with a lower dose of candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide and will monitor your situation more closely, or may recommend another blood pressure medicine altogether.
