Side Effects of Candesartan-Hydrochlorothiazide

As with any medication, there are potential side effects of candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide, including cold or flu symptoms, dizziness, and back pain. There are also some more serious and rare side effects of candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide, such as an unexplained skin rash, difficulty breathing or swallowing, and vomiting. You should consult a healthcare provider if you develop any unusual symptoms while taking candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide.

An Overview of Candesartan-Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects associated with candesartan cilexetil-hydrochlorothiazide (Atacand HCT^®). However, not everyone who takes candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide well. When people side effects do occur, in many cases they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or a healthcare provider. Serious side effects can occur, but are less common.

Common Candesartan-Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects

There have been extensive clinical trials that have evaluated thousands of people worldwide who were taking candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide.

In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common candesartan-hydrochlorothiazide side effects include:

An upper respiratory infection, such as the common cold or flu -- occurring in up to 3.6 percent of people
Back pain -- in up to 3.3 percent
Dizziness -- in up to 2.9 percent
Low potassium levels in the blood -- in up to 2.5 percent.
