Cardizem LA Drug Interactions (Cont.)

Cardizem LA Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Cardizem LA is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Benzodiazepines
Cardizem LA can increase the level of certain benzodiazepines in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your benzodiazepine dose to prevent this interaction from occurring.

Beta Blockers
Combining Cardizem LA with a beta blocker may increase your risk of side effects, especially low blood pressure (hypotension) and slow heart rate (bradycardia). Your healthcare provider should closely monitor your heart rate and blood pressure if you are taking a beta blocker with Cardizem LA.

Buspirone (BuSpar)
Cardizem LA can increase the level of buspirone in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your buspirone dosage as a result.

Carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR)
Cardizem LA can increase the level of carbamazepine in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your carbamazepine dosage to prevent this.

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Cimetidine may increase the level of Cardizem LA in your blood, potentially increasing your risk of Cardizem LA side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your Cardizem LA dose or may suggest an alternative to cimetidine.

Cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune)
Cardizem LA may increase the level of cyclosporine in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider should monitor your cyclosporine levels and may need to adjust your dosage.
