Catapres-TTS

Catapres-TTS is a medication often prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure. It comes in the form of a skin patch that is applied once a week. This medicine works to decrease blood pressure and heart rate by stimulating alpha-2 receptors in the brain stem. Some of the most common side effects that have been reported with drug include skin irritation, drowsiness, and fatigue.

What Is Catapres-TTS?

Catapres-TTS® (clonidine hydrochloride) is a prescription medication approved to treat high blood pressure (known medically as hypertension). It can be used alone or in combination with other high blood pressure medications. It comes in the form of a skin patch that is applied just once a week.

How Does It Work?

Catapres-TTS belongs to a group of medications known as alpha-2 adrenergic agonists.
 It works by stimulating alpha-2 receptors in the brain stem. This causes a decrease in both blood pressure and heart rate. There is also some evidence that Catapres-TTS may decrease certain substances (such as renin or aldosterone) in the body, an action that might also contribute to decreased blood pressure
