Clonidine hydrochloride (Catapres®, Catapres-TTS®, Duraclon®, Kapvay™, Nexiclon® XR) is a prescription drug that comes in several different forms.
The tablets and skin patches (Catapres and Catapres-TTS) are approved for the treatment of high blood pressure. Long-acting tablets (Kapvay) are approved for treating attention deficit disorder. Long-acting tablets and liquid (Nexiclon XR) are approved for treating blood pressure. Another form of the medication (Duraclon) can be given by continuous epidural infusion (an "epidural") to treat severe cancer pain.
Side effects of this medicine will vary depending on the particular product, but may include dry mouth, low blood pressure, and fatigue.
