Clonidine .1 mg Tablets

Clonidine hydrochloride (Catapres®, Catapres-TTS®, Duraclon®) is a prescription medication that comes in a few different forms and is approved for two different uses. Clonidine tablets (Catapres) and clonidine patches (Catapres-TTS) are approved for treating high blood pressure. Duraclon is given by continuous epidural infusion (an "epidural") and is approved to treat severe pain in people with cancer.

Clonidine tablets, which available in brand-name and generic form, come in the following strengths:

  • 0.1 mg clonidine tablets
  • 0.2 mg clonidine tablets
  • 0.3 mg clonidine tablets.

Most people taking the tablet form of clonidine typically start with the .1 mg tablets (one tablet twice daily, taken in the morning and at bedtime). If necessary, your healthcare provider may slowly increase your dose. He or she may also recommend that you take a larger portion of the daily dose at bedtime (and a smaller portion in the morning), in order to reduce bothersome side effects like drowsiness or dry mouth. Elderly individuals and people with kidney disease may need a lower clonidine dosage.
