An Overview of Demadex Dosage
The dose of
Demadex® (
torsemide) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may currently be taking
- How you respond to Demadex.
As is always the case, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Demadex Dosing for High Blood Pressure
The recommended starting Demadex dose for
high blood pressure is Demadex 5 mg once daily. Based on the initial
blood pressure response and/or side effects of Demadex, your healthcare provider may increase (or decrease) your dose if necessary, up to Demadex 10 mg per day. With each change in dosage, it may take several weeks to see the full effects of Demadex on
lowering blood pressure. If your blood pressure is not adequately controlled with Demadex 10 mg per day, your healthcare provider should add a different type of
blood pressure medication, instead of increasing your Demadex dose.
Demadex Dosing for Water Retention
The recommended dose of Demadex for fluid retention (edema) depends on the condition that is causing the fluid retention. For fluid retention due to
congestive heart failure (CHF), the starting dose is Demadex 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. For fluid retention related to kidney failure (renal failure), the starting dose is Demadex 20 mg once daily. For people with fluid retention due to
cirrhosis of the liver, the starting dose is Demadex 5 mg or 10 mg once daily. Your healthcare provider may increase your dose if necessary, up to a maximum of 200 mg daily (for CHF or kidney failure) or 40 mg daily (for cirrhosis).
