Furosemide (Lasix®) is a medicine commonly used to control high blood pressure. It is also approved to treat water retention due to several causes, including congestive heart failure, cirrhosis, and kidney failure. Furosemide is a type of diuretic that lowers blood pressure and helps with fluid retention by increasing the amount of salt and water that the kidneys remove from the blood. The drug, which is available by prescription, comes in tablet form and is available in three different strengths.
