Generic for HCTZ: An Overview

HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide or HCT) is a prescription medication that has been licensed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and water retention (edema).
 
Brand names for HCTZ include Esidrix®, HydroDIURIL®, Microzide®, and Oretic®. Since HCTZ is a very old medication, generic HCTZ has been available for many years. In fact, some of the brand-name versions are not available anymore.
 

Generic HCTZ -- Strengths

Generic HCTZ is sold under the name HCTZ tablets or HCTZ capsules. It is available in several strengths, including:
 
  • HCTZ 15 mg capsules
  • HCTZ 25 mg tablets
  • HCTZ 50 mg tablets.
