Precautions and Warnings With HCTZ

Who Should Not Take HCTZ?

You should not take HCTZ if:
 
  • You are allergic to HCTZ, any of the brand-name versions of HCTZ (Esidrix®, HydroDIURIL®, Microzide®, and Oretic®), or any inactive component used to make HCTZ. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of inactive ingredients.
     
  • You are allergic to sulfonamide-derived drugs (also referred to as sulfa drugs). This includes certain types of antibiotics, diabetes medicines, and diuretics.
     
  • You are not producing any urine (anuria).
     

HCTZ Precautions and Warnings: A Summary

There are a number of situations in which HCTZ should not be taken, as well as a number of warnings and precautions people should be aware of with this drug. However, it is possible that not all the warnings or precautions for HCTZ were discussed in this article. Therefore, you should talk with your healthcare provider about the specific ones that may apply to you.
