HydroDIURIL

HydroDIURIL is a prescription drug that is licensed to treat fluid retention and high blood pressure. As a diuretic, the medication works by increasing the amount of salt and water that the kidneys remove from the blood, which causes a decrease in blood volume. Although this product is no longer manufactured, there are several other hydrochlorothiazide medicines that are licensed for the same uses.

What Is HydroDIURIL?

HydroDIURIL (hydrochlorothiazide) is a prescription medicine that is used to treat high blood pressure and fluid retention. It is part of a class of medicines known as diuretics.

HydroDIURIL is no longer manufactured, but there are a number of other brand-name versions of hydrochlorothiazide available, including Esidrix^®, Oretic^®, and Microzide^®. There is also a generic version available. HydroDIURIL is sometimes referred to as just HCTZ or HCT.

HydroDIURIL has not been approved for use in children.

Side Effects

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with HydroDIURIL.

However, not everyone who takes this drug will experience side effects. When they do occur, HydroDIURIL side effects are often minor, meaning that they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.

The most common HydroDIURIL side effects seen in people with high blood pressure include:

Low blood potassium levels (hypokalemia) or other electrolyte imbalances
Dizziness
Upset stomach (nausea) or vomiting.
