Benazepril hydrochloride and amlodipine besylate (Lotrel®) is used to treat hypertension, more commonly known as high blood pressure. This product comes in capsule form and is taken once a day. Most people have no problems with it, but side effects can include dizziness, cough, and headache. Fortunately, if such reactions occur, they are usually mild and easily treated.
The two active ingredients in Lotrel (benazepril and amlodipine) work by blocking an enzyme that causes blood vessels to narrow and by slowing down the rate at which calcium moves into the blood. As a result, blood vessels relax, which causes a decrease in blood pressure and eases the workload on the heart.
