Telmisartan (Micardis)

A prescription medication, telmisartan (Micardis®) is approved to control high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. By lowering blood pressure, telmisartan helps decrease the risks that are associated with long-term high blood pressure, such as heart attacks and strokes.

The medication is generally taken once a day, with or without food. It is generally well tolerated. However, diarrhea, back pain, and other side effects are possible. To help ensure your safety, tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are currently taking, including nonprescription products. In addition, do not take any potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium without consulting your healthcare provider first.
