Why Do Isoptin SR Drug Interactions Matter?

Phenobarbital
Phenobarbital may decrease the level of Isoptin SR in your blood, perhaps making it less effective. Your healthcare provider may need to increase your Isoptin SR dosage to prevent this interaction from occurring.

Quinidine
Isoptin SR can increase the level of quinidine in your blood, possibly increasing your risk of side effects. Combining these two medications may also increase your risk of low blood pressure (hypotension). Be sure to talk with your healthcare provider before taking quinidine with Isoptin SR.

Simvastatin
Isoptin SR increases the level of simvastatin in the blood, increasing the risk of serious side effects of simvastatin. If these medications are combined, the simvastatin dosage should not exceed 10 mg per day.

Telithromycin
Combining Isoptin SR with telithromycin has been reported to cause low blood pressure (hypotension) and a slow heart rate (bradycardia). Check with your healthcare provider before taking these medications together.

Theophylline
Isoptin SR can increase the level of theophylline in your blood, potentially increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to monitor the level of theophylline in your blood, especially when starting or stopping Isoptin SR.
