Kerlone Uses

Kerlone is licensed to treat high blood pressure in adults. Clinical studies show that taking this beta blocker once a day can effectively lower blood pressure for a full 24 hours. Occasionally, healthcare providers may also prescribe this drug for "off-label" uses. Off-label uses of Kerlone may include the treatment of angina, arrhythmias, or heart failure.

What Is Kerlone Used For?

Kerlone^® (betaxolol hydrochloride) is a prescription beta blocker medication approved for the treatment of high blood pressure (known medically as hypertension).

High blood pressure (hypertension) is defined as an average blood pressure higher than 140/90, with multiple blood pressure readings. A blood pressure reading consists of two numbers (for example, 120/80). The top number is known as the systolic blood pressure, and the bottom number is the diastolic blood pressure.

Clinical studies have demonstrated that taking Kerlone once daily can effectively lower blood pressure for a full 24 hours. By lowering blood pressure, blood pressure medications (like Kerlone) are thought to decrease the risks that occur with long-term high blood pressure (see Effects of High Blood Pressure).

Kerlone does not, however, cure high blood pressure; if you stop taking it, your blood pressure will increase again. It can be used alone or in combination with other blood pressure medications.
