Drug Interactions With Losartan-Hydrochlorothiazide

More Detail About Losartan-Hydrochlorothiazide Interactions

Diuretics
When taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide with a diuretic, your blood pressure may decrease too much. This is more likely to occur when losartan-hydrochlorothiazide is first started. In order to decrease the chances of this losartan-hydrochlorothiazide interaction, your healthcare provider may start you on a lower dose of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide and/or monitor you more closely.

Potassium Supplements or Salt Substitutes With Potassium
If you are taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide along with a potassium supplement or a salt substitute with potassium, the levels of potassium in your blood may become too high. This can cause serious problems. For your particular situation, talk to your healthcare provider about using potassium and losartan-hydrochlorothiazide together.

Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
If you are taking both losartan-hydrochlorothiazide and a potassium-sparing diuretic, your body may metabolize the drugs differently than intended and/or increase the levels of potassium in your blood. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely.

Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane, Rofact)
If you are taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide and rifampin together, your body may metabolize losartan-hydrochlorothiazide differently than intended. This can cause a decreased level of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide in your body. When using these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely and/or adjust your losartan-hydrochlorothiazide dose as needed.

Lithium (Eskalith, Lithane, Lithonate, Lithotabs)
If you are taking both losartan-hydrochlorothiazide and lithium, your body may metabolize the drugs differently than intended and increase the lithium levels in the blood. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your blood lithium levels more frequently.
