More Information on Drug Interactions With Losartan-Hydrochlorothiazide

Alcohol
When taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide with alcohol, your blood pressure may decrease too much. For your particular situation, make sure to talk with your healthcare provider about drinking alcohol while taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide.
 
Barbiturates
When taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide with a barbiturate, your blood pressure may decrease too much. In order to decrease the chances of this losartan-hydrochlorothiazide interaction, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide, and/or monitor you more closely.
 
Narcotics
When taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide with a narcotic, your blood pressure may decrease too much. In order to decrease the chances of this interaction, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of losartan-hydrochlorothiazide, and/or monitor you more closely.
 
Cholestyramine (Prevalite, Questran, Questran Light, LoCholest)
Cholestyramine can bind to losartan-hydrochlorothiazide in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. To avoid this drug interaction, losartan-hydrochlorothiazide should be taken at least one hour before, or four to six hours after, cholestyramine has been given.
 
Colestipol (Colestid)
Colestipol can bind to losartan-hydrochlorothiazide in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. To avoid this drug interaction, losartan-hydrochlorothiazide should be taken at least one hour before, or four to six hours after, colestipol has been given.
 
Corticosteroids
Taking corticosteroids with losartan-hydrochlorothiazide may cause an electrolyte imbalance, especially with the levels of potassium in the blood. If you are taking a corticosteroid with losartan-hydrochlorothiazide, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of medicine as needed.
