An Overview of Losartan-Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects
As with any medicine, there are possible side effects associated with
losartan-hydrochlorothiazide (
Hyzaar®). However, not everyone who takes
losartan-
hydrochlorothiazide will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate losartan-hydrochlorothiazide well. When side effects do occur, in many cases they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or a healthcare provider. Serious side effects can occur, but are less common.

Common Losartan-Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects
Thousands of people worldwide who were taking losartan-hydrochlorothiazide have been evaluated in extensive clinical trials.
In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common losartan-hydrochlorothiazide side effects include:
- Low potassium in the blood -- in up to 6.7 percent of people
- Infection, such as the common cold or flu -- up to 6.1 percent
- Dizziness -- in up to 5.7 percent
- Cough -- up to 2.6 percent
- Back pain -- in up to 2.1 percent.
