Calan SR Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when Calan SR is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alcohol
Calan SR can decrease your body's ability to remove alcohol from your body, which can result in higher blood alcohol levels and prolonged intoxication. Be sure to use caution while drinking alcohol if you are taking Calan SR.

Aspirin
Combining aspirin with Calan SR may increase your risk of bleeding. Make sure to talk to your healthcare provider before combining aspirin with Calan SR.

Benzodiazepines
Calan SR can increase the level of certain benzodiazepines in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your benzodiazepine dose.

Beta Blockers
Combining Calan SR with a beta blocker may increase your risk of side effects, especially low blood pressure (hypotension) and a slow heart rate (bradycardia). Your healthcare provider should closely monitor your heart rate and blood pressure if you are taking a beta blocker with Calan SR.

Other Blood Pressure Medications
Combining Calan SR with other high blood pressure medications may lower your blood pressure too much. Your healthcare provider should carefully monitor your blood pressure when combining Calan SR with other blood pressure medications.

Buspirone (BuSpar)
Calan SR can increase the level of buspirone in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your buspirone dosage.

Carbamazepine (Tegretol, Tegretol XR)
Calan SR can increase the level of carbamazepine in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your carbamazepine dosage.
