Products That Interfere With Metoprolol Tartrate

More Detail on Drug Interactions With Metoprolol Tartrate

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when metoprolol tartrate is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alpha Blockers
Combining metoprolol tartrate with an alpha blocker can increase the risk of dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension). Check with your healthcare provider before combining such medications.

Calcium Channel Blockers
Combining metoprolol tartrate with certain calcium channel blockers may cause a dangerously low blood pressure and (for verapamil or diltiazem), a slow heart rate (bradycardia). You may need to be monitored very closely if you take these medications together. In some cases, it is not recommended to combine metoprolol tartrate with a calcium channel blocker.

Certain Antidepressants
If you are taking metoprolol tartrate and certain antidepressants together, your body may metabolize metoprolol tartrate differently than intended. This can cause an increased level of metoprolol tartrate in your body. If you are using these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely and/or adjust your metoprolol tartrate dose if needed.

Certain Antipsychotics
If you are taking metoprolol tartrate and certain antipsychotics together, your body may metabolize metoprolol tartrate differently than intended. This can cause an increased level of metoprolol tartrate in your body. If you are using these medicines together, your healthcare provider may choose to monitor you more closely and/or adjust your metoprolol tartrate dose if needed.

Certain Arrhythmia Medications
Combining atenolol with certain arrhythmia medications may cause a dangerously slow heart rate (bradycardia). You may need to be monitored very closely if you take these medications together. In some cases, it is not recommended to combine metoprolol tartrate with an arrhythmia medication.
