Drugs That Can Interfere With Minoxidil Oral

Amifostine
Taking minoxidil oral within 24 hours of receiving amifostine could lower your blood pressure to unsafe levels. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction.

Cyclosporine
Both minoxidil oral and cyclosporine may cause abnormal, excessive hair growth. Using these drugs together could cause excess hair growth beyond what is expected from either medication alone.

Diazoxide
Taking diazoxide with minoxidil oral may lower your blood pressure to unsafe levels. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your blood pressure more closely if you take these medications together.

Guanethidine
Adding minoxidil oral to guanethidine may increase your risk for orthostatic hypotension (a decrease in blood pressure when you stand up), which can cause symptoms such as faintness, dizziness, and lightheadedness. If you are taking guanethidine, your healthcare provider may want to stop it before starting minoxidil oral, or start minoxidil oral while you are in the hospital where you can be closely monitored.

Other Blood Pressure Medications
Taking minoxidil oral in combination with other blood pressure medications could lower your blood pressure to unsafe levels. Minoxidil oral is normally used in combination with other blood pressure medications, but only with close monitoring by a healthcare provider.

Phosphodiesterase Type 5 Inhibitors
Taking minoxidil oral with a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor may lower your blood pressure to unsafe levels. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your blood pressure more closely if you take these medications together.

Prostacyclin Analogs
Combining minoxidil oral with a prostacyclin analog may cause your blood pressure to become too low. Talk to your healthcare provider about this possible interaction if you are taking a prostacyclin analog.
