(Click Loniten Overdose for more information.)

What Should I Do If I Forget a Dose?

If you forget to take your minoxidil oral dose, simply skip it and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose.

How Does Minoxidil Oral Work?

Minoxidil oral works by relaxing and enlarging the blood vessels in the body, allowing blood to flow more easily through the vessels. Because blood can flow more easily, blood pressure decreases.

When and How to Take This Medication

Some general considerations to keep in mind during treatment with minoxidil oral include the following:

  • This medication comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth once or twice a day.

  • Minoxidil oral can be taken with or without food. Try taking it with food if it seems to bother your stomach.

  • Your healthcare provider may ask you to check your heart rate regularly and weigh yourself daily while you are taking this medication. This helps you watch for certain serious minoxidil oral side effects (see Precautions and Warnings With Minoxidil Oral).

  • You will likely need to take at least two other blood pressure medications with minoxidil oral, usually a diuretic and a beta blocker. These other medications help lower your blood pressure and prevent certain side effects. Take all the medications as prescribed.

  • Try to take your doses at the same time each day to maintain an even level of minoxidil oral in your bloodstream.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed.
