Moduretic^® (amiloride-HCTZ) is passed through breast milk. Because of the potentially serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of the drug does not recommend that Moduretic be used in breastfeeding women. Therefore, if you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding, make sure to let your healthcare provider know.

Moduretic and Breastfeeding: What Does the Research Say?

Moduretic is a combination of two diuretics: hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and amiloride. Hydrochlorothiazide passes through breast milk. It is not known if the other component (amiloride) is passed through breast milk. It is also not known what the effects might be on a breastfeeding child. If your healthcare provider decides that it is okay for you to take Moduretic while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects or changes in your baby.
