The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when nisoldipine is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Certain Antibiotics and Antifungals
Taking nisoldipine with certain antibiotics or antifungals can increase the level of nisoldipine in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider should monitor your blood pressure (and may need to lower your Nisoldipine dosage) while you are taking certain antibiotics or antifungals.

Cimetidine (Tagamet)
Cimetidine may increase the level of nisoldipine in your blood, increasing your risk of Nisoldipine side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to adjust your nisoldipine dose or suggest an alternative to cimetidine.

Grapefruit Juice
Grapefruit juice can increase the level of nisoldipine in your blood, even if you do not take nisoldipine and drink grapefruit juice at the same time of the day. It is best to avoid grapefruit juice altogether while you are taking nisoldipine. However, if your healthcare provider decides it is okay for you to drink grapefruit juice, you should do so consistently and in moderation.

Nefazodone (Serzone)
Nefazodone can increase the level of nisoldipine in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to decrease your nisoldipine dosage.

Phenytoin (Dilantin)
Phenytoin can greatly decrease the level of nisoldipine in your blood, making it less effective. It is generally not recommended to take nisoldipine with phenytoin.

Protease Inhibitors
