Other Drugs That Interfere With Olmesartan Medoxomil/Amlodipine/Hydrochlorothiazide

Calcium Channel Blockers
Olmesartan medoxomil/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide contains a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine). Therefore, it should generally not be combined with other calcium channel blockers, as this could increase the risk for very low blood pressure, or other side effects, such as dizziness and swelling (edema).

Colesevelam
Colesevelam may decrease the absorption of olmesartan medoxomil/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide into the body, perhaps making it less effective. This interaction can be avoided by taking olmesartan medoxomil/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide at least four hours before colesevelam.

Corticosteroids
Taking corticosteroids with olmesartan medoxomil/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide may cause an electrolyte imbalance, especially with the levels of potassium in the blood. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider may monitor your blood potassium levels more closely.

Diabetes Medications
Taking olmesartan medoxomil/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide with diabetes medications may increase blood sugar levels. If you take these medications together, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and may need to adjust the dose of your diabetes medication.

Lithium
Olmesartan medoxomil/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide may increase the amount of lithium in your body to unsafe levels. Signs of too much lithium (lithium toxicity) include the following:

  • Tremors in the hands or legs
  • Dizziness
  • Difficulty walking
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion.

If you take olmesartan medoxomil/amlodipine/hydrochlorothiazide and lithium together, your healthcare provider should monitor your blood lithium levels. You may need a lower lithium dose. If you experience any of the signs of lithium toxicity, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
