Potassium Supplements or Salt Substitutes With Potassium
If you are taking olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide along with a potassium supplement or a salt substitute with potassium, the levels of potassium in your blood may become too high. This can cause serious problems. Talk to your healthcare provider about using potassium and olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide together in your particular situation.
 
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
If olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide and a potassium-sparing diuretic are taken together, your body may metabolize the drugs differently than intended and/or increase the levels of potassium in your blood. Your healthcare provider may choose to monitor your progress closely to prevent this interaction.
 
Lithium
When olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide and lithium are taken together, your body may metabolize the drugs differently than intended and increase the levels of lithium in the blood. For this reason, lithium is generally not recommended in people taking olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide.
 
Insulin
Taking insulin with olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide may increase blood sugar levels. Your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of insulin as needed, depending on your particular situation.
 
Oral Diabetes Medication
Taking an oral diabetes medication and olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide together may increase blood sugar levels. To prevent this interaction, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of diabetes medications as needed.
 
Other High Blood Pressure Medicines
When taking olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide with another high blood pressure medication, your blood pressure may decrease too much. In order to decrease the chances of this interaction, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or change the dose of either medicine.
