Specific Interactions With Olmesartan Medoxomil-Hydrochlorothiazide

Alcohol
If olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide and alcohol are combined, your blood pressure may decrease too much. Talk with your healthcare provider about drinking alcohol while taking olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide in your particular situation.
 
Barbiturates
If olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide is taken with a barbiturate, your blood pressure may decrease too much. To prevent this interaction, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide, and/or monitor you more closely.
 
Narcotics
If olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide is combined with a narcotic, your blood pressure may decrease too much. To prevent this, your healthcare provider may change the dose of either medicine, start you on a lower dose of olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide, and/or monitor you more closely, depending on your particular situation.
 
Cholestyramine
Cholestyramine can bind to olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. To avoid this interaction, you can take olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide at least one hour before or four to six hours after cholestyramine has been given.
 
Colestipol
Colestipol can bind to olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide in the digestive tract and decrease its absorption into the body. Olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide should be taken at least one hour before or four to six hours after colestipol has been given to avoid this drug interaction.
 
Corticosteroids
Taking corticosteroids with olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide may cause an electrolyte imbalance, especially with the levels of potassium in the blood. If you are taking these two medications together, your healthcare provider may monitor you more closely and/or adjust your dose of medicine as needed.
