Who Should Not Take Olmesartan Medoxomil-Hydrochlorothiazide?

You should not take olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide if you:
 
  • Are allergic to olmesartan medoxomil, hydrochlorothiazide, or any inactive component used to make the drug. Your healthcare provider or pharmacist has a list of the inactive ingredients in olmesartan medoxomil-hydrochlorothiazide.
     
  • Are allergic to sulfonamide-derived drugs (also referred to as sulfa drugs). This includes certain types of antibiotics, diabetes medicines, and diuretics.
     
  • Have severe kidney disease.
  • Have diabetes and are also taking any medications that contain aliskiren (Tekturna®, Tekamlo®, Tekturna HCT®, Amturnide®, Valturna®), due to an increased risk for low blood pressure, high blood potassium, and kidney problems in this situation.
