Side Effects of Olmesartan

Following extensive clinical trials with olmesartan, dizziness was found to be the most common side effect. Some side effects of olmesartan, such as an unexplained skin rash or difficulty breathing, should be reported immediately to a healthcare provider. Rarer side effects include indigestion, heartburn, or hair loss. Although most people tolerate the drug without problems, notify your healthcare provider if you develop any potential olmesartan side effects.

Side Effects of Olmesartan: An Overview

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with olmesartan medoxomil (Benicar®). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in many cases, they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or a healthcare provider. Serious side effects can occur, but are less common.

Common Olmesartan Side Effects

Extensive clinical trials have evaluated thousands of people worldwide who were taking olmesartan. In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occurred in a similar group of people not taking the medicine. Based on these studies, the most common side effect was dizziness, occurring in up to 3 percent of people. No other side effects of olmesartan were reported in more than 1 percent of people taking the medication.
