Side Effects of Quinapril-Hydrochlorothiazide

The most commonly reported side effects of quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide include headache, muscle pain, cough, and dizziness. Less common side effects include asthma, dry mouth, and arthritis. Most side effects of quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide are considered minor and do not require medical attention. However, if you experience symptoms such as difficulty breathing, stomach pain, or fainting spells, be sure to alert your healthcare provider immediately.

Quinapril-Hydrochlorothiazide Side Effects: An Overview

As with any medicine, there are possible side effects with quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide (sold under the brand name Accuretic® and also sold generically as Quinaretic™) However, not everyone who takes the medicine will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide well. When side effects do occur, in many cases they are minor, meaning they require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Quinapril-Hydrochlorothiazide

Quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide has been studied extensively in clinical trials, with thousands of people having been evaluated. In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occur in a similar group of people not taking the medicine.
 
Based on these studies, the most common quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide side effects include:
 
  • Headache -- up to 6.7 percent of people
  • Dizziness -- up to 4.8 percent
  • Cough -- up to 3.2 percent (see Accupril Cough)
  • Fatigue -- up to 2.9 percent
  • Muscle pain -- up to 2.4 percent
  • High potassium levels in the blood -- up to 2 percent.
