You can help ensure a safe treatment process by being aware of all the warnings and precautions with quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide before starting the medication. For example, it's possible to develop side effects while using the drug, including swelling of the head and neck, allergic reactions, liver failure, and electrolyte imbalances. Certain people should not take this drug, including those who are allergic to ACE inhibitors, have severe kidney disease, or are allergic to sulfonamide-derived drugs.

Quinapril-Hydrochlorothiazide: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking

quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide (sold under the brand name Accuretic^® and also sold generically as Quinaretic™) if you have:

Heart disease, including congestive heart failure, aortic stenosis, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
Liver disease, including cirrhosis
Kidney disease or kidney failure
Diabetes
Scleroderma
Systemic lupus erythematosus (lupus or SLE)
A personal or family history of angioedema (swelling under the skin)
Gout
High cholesterol
Pancreatitis
Allergies
Asthma
Fluid or electrolyte problems
Any allergies, including allergies to quinapril-hydrochlorothiazide, ACE inhibitors, sulfa drugs, foods, dyes, or preservatives.

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Are pregnant or trying to become pregnant (see Accuretic and Pregnancy)
Are breastfeeding
Are on dialysis
Drink alcohol regularly
Will be undergoing surgery or anesthesia.

Tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you may currently be taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
