Sectral Warnings and Precautions

To ensure a safe treatment process, warnings and precautions for Sectral should be reviewed. For example, conditions that you should tell your healthcare provider about prior to taking this drug include diabetes, liver disease, and hyperthyroidism. Warnings also relate the safety of taking the medication while pregnant, the risk of abruptly stopping treatment, and people who should not take this medicine.

What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider Before Taking Sectral?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to taking
 Sectral® (acebutolol hydrochloride) if you have:
 
  • Peripheral artery disease (PAD)
  • Mesenteric vascular disease (problems with the blood vessels of the intestines)
  • Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, or hepatitis
  • Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure)
  • Diabetes
  • Chest pain (angina)
  • Heart failure
  • A slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • Asthma
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • An upcoming surgery
  • Any allergies, including allergies to food, dyes, or preservatives.
     
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you are:
 
  • Pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.
     
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
