Spironolactone-HCTZ

Spironolactone-HCTZ is a medication that is commonly prescribed to treat high blood pressure and fluid retention. It is a combination drug that consists of two different diuretics. By increasing the amount of water removed from the blood, spironolactone-HCTZ can cause a decrease in blood volume. Side effects that have been reported with the medication include dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, and drowsiness.

What Is Spironolactone-HCTZ?

Spironolactone-HCTZ (Aldactazide^®) is a prescription medicine that is used as a diuretic for high blood pressure and fluid retention. As the name implies, it is a combination of two diuretic medications: spironolactone and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ).

Spironolactone-HCTZ Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with spironolactone-HCTZ.

However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.

A few of the reported side effects of spironolactone-HCTZ include:

Low blood pressure (hypotension)
Diarrhea or constipation
Nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite
Dizziness
Drowsiness or confusion
Breast development in men (gynecomastia)
Menstrual changes, including irregular or absent periods
