Side Effects of Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide

The most commonly reported side effects of telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide include upper respiratory infection, dizziness, sinus infection, and diarrhea. Rare side effects include sore throat, back pain, or increased heart rate. While most telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide side effects do not require medical attention, notify your healthcare provider immediately if you experience serious problems, such as weak or irregular heartbeat, unexplained skin rash, or seizures.

In these studies, side effects are always documented and compared to side effects that occurred in a similar group of people not taking the medicine.

Based on these studies, the most common side effects of telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide include:

Upper respiratory infection, such as the common cold or flu -- up to 8 percent of people
Dizziness -- up to 5 percent
Inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis) -- up to 4 percent
Diarrhea -- up to 3 percent
Fatigue -- up to 3 percent
Nausea -- up to 2 percent.
