Who Makes This Medication?
Teveten HCT is made by Solvay Pharmaceuticals for Abbott Laboratories.
How Does Teveten HCT Work?
Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), one of the medicines in Teveten HCT, is a diuretic or "water pill.
" It works by increasing the amount of salt and water the kidneys remove from the blood. This extra salt and water is then passed out through the urine. The removal of salt and water decreases blood volume, resulting in
lower blood pressure.
The other component of this medication, eprosartan, belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs). Angiotensin II is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that causes blood vessels to narrow (constrict). By blocking angiotensin II, eprosartan helps to relax the blood vessels, which lowers
blood pressure.
