Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Dosing for High Blood Pressure
The recommended starting dosage of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide for most people with
high blood pressure (
hypertension) is either valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide 80 mg/12.5 mg or valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide 160 mg/12.5 mg once a day. Based on the
blood pressure response and/or valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide side effects, the dosage may be increased or decreased. With each change in dosage, it may take up to one month to see the full effects of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide on
lowering blood pressure.
General Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Dosage Information
Some considerations for people taking valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide include:
- Your valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide dosage should be taken by mouth with a glass of water.
- Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide may be taken with or without food.
- Do not break, chew, or crush the valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide tablets.
- Make sure to take valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide at the same time each day to maintain even levels of the medicine in your blood.
- For valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide will not work if you take it in a way other than how your healthcare provider has prescribed.
- If you do not take your valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide as scheduled, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with normal dosing. Do not take a double dose.
