Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Dosing

The recommended starting valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide dose for most people with high blood pressure is either 80 mg/12.5 mg or 160 mg/12.5 mg once daily. Based on the blood pressure response and/or valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide side effects, your healthcare provider may increase or decrease your dosage. With each change in dosage, it may take up to one month to see the full effects of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide on lowering blood pressure. Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Dosage: An Introduction

The dose of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide (Diovan HCT®) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
 
  • Other medical conditions you may have
  • Other medications you may be currently taking
  • How you respond to valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide.
     
As always, do not adjust your dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
 

Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Dosing for High Blood Pressure

The recommended starting dosage of valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide for most people with high blood pressure (hypertension) is either valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide 80 mg/12.5 mg or valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide 160 mg/12.5 mg once a day. General Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide Dosage Information

Some considerations for people taking valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide include:
 
 
  • Your valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide dosage should be taken by mouth with a glass of water.
     
  • Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide may be taken with or without food.
     
  • Do not break, chew, or crush the valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide tablets.
     
  • Make sure to take valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide at the same time each day to maintain even levels of the medicine in your blood.
     
  • For valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide to work properly, you have to take it as prescribed. Valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide will not work if you take it in a way other than how your healthcare provider has prescribed.
     
  • If you do not take your valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide as scheduled, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and continue with normal dosing. Do not take a double dose.
     
  • If you are unsure about anything related to valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide or your valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide dosage, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. Do not stop taking valsartan and hydrochlorothiazide without first discussing it with your healthcare provider.
