Generic Verelan PM

Generic Verelan PM is available in three strengths, verapamil 100 mg, 200 mg, and 300 mg extended-release capsules. The FDA has assigned the generic versions of Verelan PM an "AB" rating, meaning that they should be equivalent to brand-name Verelan PM. However, generic medications may contain fillers, dyes, and other ingredients that may cause problems for people with allergies or sensitivities.

 

An Overview of Generic Verelan PM

Verelan PM® (verapamil hydrochloride) is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). It is part of a group of medications called calcium channel blockers.
 
Verelan PM was first manufactured by Schwarz Pharma. However, it has since come off patent and is available as a generic.

Generic Verelan PM capsules are available in the following strengths:
 
  • Verapamil 100 mg extended release
  • Verapamil 200 mg extended release
  • Verapamil 300 mg extended release.

Is Generic Verapamil as Good as Verelan PM?

All generic medications must undergo certain tests to compare them to brand-name medications.
 The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) then looks at these tests to decide if the generics are equivalent to the brand-name medications, and assigns each generic a rating. An "AB" rating means that the FDA has determined that a generic medication is equivalent to a brand-name medication. All of the generic Verelan PM versions currently available have an "AB" rating, meaning they should be equivalent to Verelan PM. It is important to note that there are many different verapamil products that are not equivalent to Verelan PM (but are equivalent to other brand-name verapamil products, such as Calan® or Covera®).
 
It is important to remember that generic medications are allowed to have different inactive ingredients than the brand-name medication. This might include fillers, dyes, or other ingredients that may cause problems for people with allergies or sensitivities.
