Verelan PM Dosage: An Introduction
The dose of
Verelan PM® (
verapamil hydrochloride) your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:
- Other medical conditions you may have
- Other medications you may currently be taking.
As is always the case, do not adjust your
Verelan PM dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
Verelan PM Dosing for Blood Pressure
The recommended starting Verelan PM dose for
treating high blood pressure (
hypertension) is Verelan PM 200 mg once daily at bedtime. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase your dose to control your
blood pressure, up to a maximum of Verelan PM 480 mg once daily. The dosage can also be decreased if you experience bothersome side effects.
The recommended starting dose for certain people (such as elderly people, smaller people, or those with liver or kidney problems) is lower, Verelan PM 100 mg once daily at bedtime.
General Verelan PM Dosage Information
Some considerations for people taking Verelan PM include:
- Verelan PM comes in the form of a capsule. Verelan PM is taken by mouth, usually once a day at bedtime.
- It does not matter if you take Verelan PM with or without food.
- Verelan PM capsules contain extended-release beads that slowly release the medication over time. Be sure to swallow the capsules whole.
- For people who have difficulty swallowing, Verelan PM capsules may be opened and the contents sprinkled onto a spoonful of applesauce. The applesauce should not be hot and should be swallowed immediately (without chewing). Follow the applesauce with a glass of cool water.
- Verelan PM should be taken at the same time each day to maintain an even level of the medicine in your blood.
- For Verelan PM to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Verelan PM will not work if you stop taking it.
- If you are unsure about anything related to your Verelan PM dosage, please talk to your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
